Maroochy Botanical Gardens
The magnificent Maroochy Botanical Gardens is a huge 112 hectares, located west of Buderim off the Tanawha Tourist Drive.
Gaze at the gullies filled with ferns and palms, the lagoon home to many kinds of wildlife, have a peaceful picnic, take a stroll along the natural bush walking tracks and check out the art and sculptures along the way.
A fully operational Arts and Ecology centre is located in the gardens, it is notable for its sustainable design and constuction, definitely worth checking out while you’re there!
The garden areas are a family favourite for outings and weddings. There are undercover areas and toilets for picnics and you are welcome to bring your own barbecue equipment. Sorry there are no dogs permitted, and no rubbish bins are provided to reduce the number of crows and other scavengers, and to not interfere with the feeding habits of local fauna.
The gardens are owned and maintained by the Sunshine Coast Council, assisted by the Friends of Maroochy Regional Bushland Botanic Gardens Inc, a volunteer organisation established in 1996. The Friends provide guides and volunteer staff for the information desk in the Arts and Ecology Centre, along with maintaining the gardens.
Take a tour with a trained guide on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of each month, just meet at the information sign near the car park for a nice stroll starting at 9am. During the hot months we take advantage of the shady, cool areas of the Gardens, including the Mossy Log area, the Fern Glade, the Friendship Colonnade and the Ephemeral Wetlands.
Guided walks for groups can be arranged for suitable times, mutually convenient for guide(s) and walkers. But time is required for organisation so please let us know at least a month in advance. Contact Margaret on 5445 3375.
If you are interested in training as a Guide, applications for a new intake occur several times per year. Please contact Margaret (5445 3375) for further details.
