Buderim's Big Bash

A Buderim Q150 Community Event

A joint initiative of BWMCA—Sunshine Coast Regional Council —Q150

The 150th anniversary of Queensland becoming a State is a once in a lifetime opportunity to celebrate where we have come from and where we are now.

BWMCA will celebrate by giving some 60 of our tireless community groups a carnival event to show how they and those who came before them - in many cases their parents and grandparents - have helped to make our region the happy community that it is today.

BWMCA is privileged to have so many groups as our Affiliates. We would like to acknowledge their great contribution to our region by organising and helping fund an opportunity for them to have their moment in the sun.

Over one weekend of festivity these groups, young and old, can involve visitors from the region and beyond in what they do. Some of the groups will present concerts or plays, some of them will hold sporting matches, some of them will give demonstrations, some of them will be part of a forest of marquees where they can entertain and explain their activities. There will be 4 concerts, 2 plays, 5 sports matches, plus 30 community marquees, a mini garden and sanctuary.

Buderim's Big Bash will be celebrating 150 years of building a happy community and feature 60 community groups including churches, schools, hobby and social groups, sports clubs, churches etc. Entry to everything is FREE. Food and refreshment venues will also be available.

At the close of the Q150 event the BWMCA will present the first of its 'Unsung Heroes' Awards. These awards will be held annually to salute those people who give outstanding service to the local community. For 2009 only, in the spirit of the overall event, nominations will be from BWMCA Affiliates. In following years nominations will be open to the region generally.

BWMCA - Buderim War Memorial Community Association - was founded in 1945 as a living war memorial. Its work in the community is aided by some 74 community groups who are BWMCA Affiliates.
